spelling?

My great-grandparents arrived in NY in 1885 I think. Their name was Andriasen and the few family items I have show the spelling that way. The US info I've found also show the same. However in Norway records I can find no matches. Was the proper spelling"Andreasen"? Is it common to find these changes and how do you get around them ? Thanks[8D]
