Steam Ship Calypso

As part of my family history I am researching the Calypso as my gggrandfather was the Captain of this Ship. Charles Cook Smith. I know the ship was torpedoed on 11th July 1916 but can not find any online newspaper reports confirming this. Does any one else know where I can search to confirm the above information? How do I confirm that indeed Charles Cook Smith was the Captain ? Has anyone researched this ships disaster ? I would love to hear from you and any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
