Stow-Aways

I just discovered this web site and am hopeful you can help me. My ggrandfather stowed away on a cattleship sometime in 1885. Other information I have is his name Jens Hans Olafson, born in Strausner, Sunfjord, Norway on 3/15/1870. I con't have a farm or parish location and don't even know what part of Norway this is (I haven't been able to find any old maps that may list this)...would there be any kind of cargo/barge/etc. ships that took on passengers? Can you give me any direction on where to search? Grrrr! De Tobias DeAnne Tobias
