Was there mental illness/medical records?

sorry if that seems like a dark question, i was just wondering, was their records kept of mental illness/sickness back then? and have any of you ever traced something like that? im guessing they really didnt do that sort of thing other then noting a cause of death or something, but all the same im curious to know. thanks.
