Word for Lange Book 1888

I am translating a very old Lange Slektebok from Riksmaal to English. There are 2 abbreviated words that I can not find in any Norwegian or Danish Dictionary's ex. Philos and c. Philos I think these have something to do with school or education. If anyone would like, I can e-mail you the original sentance either in Riksmaal or English. Gus Marsh
