Searching grandfather Henrik Melgaard in Canada

My grandfather, Henrik J. Johansen Melgaard, born in Bindal, Norway 1879, left Trondheim on Sep 3rd 1908 and arrived in Quebec, Canada on Sep 19th 1908 on the S/S Virginian. His destination was apparently Winnipeg. My initial search in Canadian archives yield no information. How do I proceed to trace his destiny further? Dag Melgaard
