Bethany Watson (09.04.2020)

He is my great-great-great grandfather. He came to the Fox River Settlement at 17. It has been said that he mowed "slough hay" with a hand scythe and oats were harvested with a "cradle". He bought the Anderson farm in Norway, IL from the US Government for $1.25 per acre. When he was 26, he married Margaret Gunnerson on June 23, 1847. Margaret's dress was made from calico (25 cents per yard) and Ener wore a hickory shirt. Ener hauled grain to Chicago with oxen and later with horses. The trip required two days and he slept under the wagon at night. He also hauled grapes to Chicago and delivered to a winery.
