Holly Batton (20.04.2025)

Gurine wrote a letter to a Miss Johnson Aug 15, 1939. Three of her siblings died from measles on the trip. Because of headwinds, the trip took two weeks longer than anticipated. The captain gave them food meant for the crew. The crew mutinied and a tugboat had to pull them to shore. It took two weeks by train and river boat to reach Lansing Iowa. From there they went to Spring Grove, MN
