Atlantic White Star Line steamship built 1871 at Belfast, Ireland by Harland & Wolff. Her 19th and final voyage started when she departed from Liverpool March 20th 1873. On April 1st, the Atlantic ran on a solid rock and was wrecked about fifty yards distant from Meagher's Island, in the County of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Among the passengers were several Norwegian emigrants which had departed from Christiania (Oslo) on March 14th. Many of them were among the deceased. Of the 957 passengers aboard, 545 lost their lives
