I am looking for a Peter Martin Merlees/Merilies, who in Bergen, Norway around the year 1854 (?) married Susanne Möller, and had 4 children: Jacoba Agnethe born 1854, Peter Nicolai born 1856, Jörgen Lund Möller born 1858 and Marie Antonette Bothner born 1860. Does anyone know anything about this person, where he came from and who his parents were?

Yes, Marta Merlis could very well be the mother of Peter Martin!
There is a man called Adam Merelias (there are a lot of different spellings of this last name) born in 1765 in Bergen. His oldest son, also called Adam b. 1792 is probably the father of Ole A. b. 1825.
It would be nice to find the husband of Marta Merlis. It could be that he is one of the younger brothers of Adam b 1792. In that case it could be Peter Nicolaj b.1796 or Hans Heinrich b. 1799.
The youngest brother Jacob Christian is born in 1803 - he is a little to young to marry Martha who seems to be born in 1798.

So in 1801 the surname was Areliesen:
11. Rode 231
Adam Areliesen Huusfader 38 Begge i 1. ægteskab Styrmand paa reysen F
Marie Wichers Hans kone 32 Begge i 1. ægteskab M
Ane Christina Areliesen Fælleds datter 6 M
Peder Arelieasen Fælleds søn 5 M
Hans Hendrick Areliesen Fælleds søn 2

Peder Nicolaj would be my guess, it's very likely that Peter Martin named his son born 1856 after his own father.

Was Giertrud Adams sister?
9de Rode 155
Hans Hendrich Meyer Huusfader 35 Begge i 1. ægteskab Skipper F
Giertrud Areliesen Hans kone 38 Begge i 1. ægteskab M
Adam Areliesen Hendes broder søn 8 M

Borgerbrev (licence to trade) issued to Jakoba Merelees Bergen Handel Ops. 8/10 1878 April 19 1875, also a relative?

Have you tried an ad in the userforum in Digitalarkivet?

Where did you find the name Ariliesen - that must be a misunderstanding.Mereliasen is a name sometimes used.
Yes, Giertrud is a sister of Adam. Adam Merelias has 6 children with Marie Wiggers: Adam b. 1792, Anna Christine b. 1794, Peder Nikolaj b. 1796, Hans henrich Mejer b. 1799, Giertrud Marie Mejer b. 1801 aand Jacob Christian b. 1803.
Jacoba is the daughter of this Peter Martin who I am looking for the parents to. She is my grandfathers mother.

Thank you very much for all this! So there is still the father of Peter Martin to look for. He is the missing link. Do you know any way to look for him without travelling to Norway and search in the actual archives there?

As I suggested earlier you could make a posting in the user-forum of Digitalarkivet:
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebDebatt.exe?slag=listtema&debatt=brukar
I got help there as a kind person had made a lookup in the churchbook and found the baptism of my ggggrandfather Andreas Olaus Bækken in 1820
You can post in English or Swedish as well as in Norwegian.

Good luck!
