An excerp from Odd S. Lovoll's book, A Century of Urban Life: The Norwegians in Chicago before 1930, published 1988:

You can buy this book for $10.28 at - abebooks.com

If you live in the Chicago area, a major public library should have newspaper microfilms and city directories.
