My great-grandfather Amund Johansen Slaastuen, his wife Marit Hansdatter together with 4 children immigrated to America about 1880. I am trying to pin down the exact date. They were from the Kvikne parish in Fron, Oppland. They are on the 1875 census from there. They were in the USA by 1883 as the older daughter was married then. I have checked the records of the Kvikne parish in hopes the date of their departure from the church was recorded but no luck. Any suggestions as to where in Norway I might find more information?

Thanks so much for the information. This is the correct family. For some reason the brother Hans must have made the journey another time.

It looks like Amund Johannesen Slaastuen was a widower when he married Marit Hansdr Stanvigen July 20. 1857.

He had a daughter Rønnaug Amundsdatter born March 26. 1849, born to Amund Johannesen Slaastuen and Mari Knudsdr. #86

Rønnaug Amundsdatter Slaastuen worked as a servant on Groupe nedre in 1865, she emigrated 1870, dest La Crosse, on ship Hero.
She is recorded Mai 1870 as Rønnaug Amundsdatter Slaastuen age 21 Amerika, right page #80

Rønnaug Amundsdatter Slaastuen came from Skåbu when she emigrated, about 2 inches down, see here

Further down Rønnougs brother;
Johannes Amundsen Slaastuen from Skåbu, he was born to Amund Johannesen Slaastuen and Mari Knudsdatter 1839, Johannes emigrated 1873 for Eau Claire on ship Oder.

I did not know Rønnaug came to this country. I have the following children for Amund and Mari Knudsdatter:
1. Johanses 2. Knut born 4 May 1847. 3. Rønnaug 4. twins Ole and Mari born 4 June 1852. both died before they were a year old. 5. Mathias I do not have a birth date. 6. Marit born 22 May 1854. Johannes also came to this country before 1881 but I do not have that date. Thank you so much for all this information.

I now want to find out more about Amund's parents Johan Thorsen and Mari Amundsdatter. I have some information about them. Should I give it here or start a new thread?

Again thank you so much for your kind consideration

How fortunate I am to have stumped upon this forum. Thank you so much. I did not have the child Kari but I have another Mari born 1 June 1820, is this correct. I have found Johannes Thorsens death 3 December 1825. I have never been able to find the death of Marie Amundsdatter. Is it possible to find the parents of Johannes and Marie?
