I have found a long lost Grandfather through a NZ Marriage Cert recently. Born in Luarvik, Norway, found to be on the ship or Mariner The "Regina" in the Australia ship records,

From the PORT OF FREDERICKSTADT TO SYDNEY, NEW SOUTH WALES,
16TH AUGUST 1883

Nothing else is known of the family outside of NZ.

If there is anyone that has or is doing family research of this surname or similar as ofter written AbrEhamsEn or AbrAhamsEn that could offer some help on tracing this family anywhere?

Please Email asap.

Many Thanks

Julius Augusts parents Abraham Anundsen and Gunhild Marie Jacobsdatter were married in Stokke, Vestfold Dec 12 1849, see #28.
Abraham was born at Ravnøe, was 22 years old and his father was Anund Larsen. Gunhild Marie was 25 years old, born in Østre Halsen and her father was Jacob Torgersen.

The bapt. record for Gunhild is next to the last one on right page, she was born Febr 19 1823, baptized at home which was confirmed in church on May 19.
Her confirmation record from Tjølling 1838 is
#3. Here she has her full name and both parents Jacob Torgersen and Olea Nielsdatter (Olea Jacobsdatter according to the bapt. record) were dead. Her fosterfather was Anders G. Gjertsen.

According to the confirmation record Abraham was born May 24 1827, see #23. His parents were Annund Larsen and Inger Andrea Gullicksdatter.

To Elbache, re 18/04/2010 : 11:22:01
Please can you help on the link to the page of Birth of Gunhild, what is the written translation detail in the 5th column or is this the translation you have written already?

The date she was confirmed is several years later she would have been 14-15yrs? I wonder why?

Thankyou in advance.

The Godparents are listed in that column. For this particular record the letters are not the easiest one, but I read
Mad Mehre Johan, Maria Johansdatter, ? Christophersen Næssen, Amund Iversen ?, ? Christiansen ?, Mate Jacob Liebe, ? ? Iver Blichstad, Anders Gullichsen.

Confirmation took place at the age of 14 - 18. When confirmed a person was regarded as "grown up" and could take on work.

Thank you for the explanation and at its best its 'readability' what is says.

Re Confirmation in the Norwegian culture makes a bit more sense now. It must have been a lot of bookwork at the Parishes at the time for them to find the records of the child 14 - 18yrs past and enter them?
Thank you for your help.

Trying to trace the 3 sisters of Julius August Abrahamsen Østre Halsen Strandsted 1865, but getting lost amongst the databases, could anyone help with finding them and if they married, died or left the country?
Amalie, Jeanette, Susanne Abrahamsdatter and adopted Hanna Kat Hansdatter. I am now trying to trace family lines that may still be alive?

Thank you for your help

Perhaps you should check in the published history/genealogy books for that area - "Tjølling bygdebok", 3 volumes by Jan W. Krohn-Holm; "Tjølling : en bygdebok : historisk skildring av bygdens utvikling fra gammel tid ned til kjendte nutidsforhold", by Lorens Berg.

Many Thanks, I am just viewing the site now.
However it does not look like the Tjolling county have an online resource available to be searched, according to the page/link. However I see that some folk are prepared to do a little research on others behalf in that county.
I also came across this site - http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~wgnorway/lookups.html
and one person on the site has the History book you recommended.

I am yet to see if a copy is available in NZ at this time, although I think it was only printed in the Norwegian language.

Thank you

From LDS records it seems like Susanna married a Swede, Alfred Leonard Gustafson, in Oslo April 19 1890 (on her 27th birthday). They had the following children:
Olaf Eugen, Aug 11 1890 in Oslo
Gunda Alvilde, May 09 1892 in Larvik
Nephi, March 11 1894 in Hedrum
Lorenzo Wilford, Febr 20 1896 in Oslo
Gustaf Julius, Nov 18 1897 in Lillestrøm
Frida Constance, May 28 1899 in Lillestrøm

Susanna died March 29 1938, Alfred Leonard Jan 12 1935.

None of this confirmed in church records!
