This ship was built 1897 at West Hartlepool by Furness, Withy & Co. for Wilson's & Furness-Leyland Line. Launched as the Victoria. In 1898 she was renamed Manitou for the Atlantic Transport Line. 1902-14 served for the Red Star Line on the Antwerp - Philadelphia route. 1920 renamed Poland. 1922 transferred to the White Star Line.
