Bark Rjukan, Ths. Offenberg & Co.

The Rjukan was built at Quebec in 1854. She was owned by Thomas Offenberg & Co, and had a burden of 291 Norwegian Commercial lasts. Captain was Ths. Hansen. This was a busy ship in the emigration trade from 1867 till 1872

Newspaper announcement from "Correspondenten" Jan. 13th 1868. According to this announcement the captain was going to acompany the emigrants from Quebec to Chicago.

In 1869 the bark Rjukan departed from Skien Apr. 25th, and arrived at Quebec on June 11th. She was sailing in ballast, and was carrying 333 steerage passengers and 3 cabin passengers*. There were two births on the voyage, and two infants died of convulsions. The Rjukan was mastered by Capt. Th. Hansen and had a crew of 16. *Quebec customs notes, 331 passengers. In 1870 the bark Rjukan departed from Skien Apr. 12th, and arrived at Quebec June 5th. She was sailing in ballast, and was carrying 263 steerage passengers and 10 cabin passengers. Two children died of cold and debility o the voyage; April 28th, [Eglief] Christensen (10 mo.) and May 15th, [Dorthi] Christensen (3), children of Kristen Jørgensen. The Rjukan was mastered by Capt. Th. Hansen, and had a crew of 16. In 1871 the bark Rjukan departed from Skien Apr. 18th, and arrived at Quebec on May 31st. She was sailing in ballast, and was carrying 157 steerage passengers. All well at arrival. Like the year before she was mastered by Capt. Th. Hansen, and had a crew of 16.
