His norwegian name is likely Sivert Sivertsen.
The early settlers in Crawford county were mostly from Sogn & Fjordane county, and especially from Luster and Årdal. Being from that part of Norway, he would have emigrated from Bergen.
Further north, in Vermon and up to Sparta, Monroe county, the settlers came from Biri, Gudbrandsdalen, Flekkefjord, Hurdal (Akershus) and Høland (Akershus).
Wonder were the name Oslo comes from? It's very strange if it is from his 1885 obituary, because at that time, Oslo was named Christiania. The most likely origin if Oslo is a clue would be Hurdal or Aurskog-Høland in Akershus. |

Interesting familytree.
It shows Margot as the oldest child, but census 1850 and 1860 shows Margareth born about 1847-48, so I think Jane is the oldest. Jane is listed as born 2 September 1845, 2 years before they were married. https://www.familysearch.org/no/tree/person/LHJB-DXD
If the father "Suit" emigrated alone, and not with his parents, he likely emigrated around 1840-1844.
Some of the marriage records list their marrige in Jo Daviess Township, Faribault, Minnesota, but census shows them in Millville, Jo Daviess, Illinois? Which Jo Daviess are correct?
Suit's headstone list him as 65 yo, 7 months and 18 days on March 3rd 1885, thus born around 13-16 July 1819. https://www.familysearch.org/en/tree/person/details/LHGB-JQ8 |

Well, I'd guess Jo Daviess County in Illinois since its indexed in the pre 1900 marriages of Illinois database at the Illinois Secretary of State archives page. What likely happened is someone started typing and the "fill-in" service jumped in with the Minnesota information and the person didn't even look to see what it filled in. |

I agree on Jo Daviess, Illinois. Martin Ulvestad has only 2 sentences about Jo Daviess, Ill in his book about Norwegians in America: In 1845 an attempt was made to establish a Norwegian settlement in this county, but it did not succeed. The only thing that possibly reminds us of the Norwegians' short stay here is a post office called Nora.
The norwegians in Jo Daviess, Illinois in 1850:
