I see a reference to a submission of "Norway DNA kit." on page 52. I assume that is a submission of a DNA sample from Derek to the FTDNA and the joining of the Norway Project. Discussion takes place over pages 53 and 54.
So was there a earlier discussion of DNA perhaps one not of Y-DNA but rather of the Autosomal Type?

The “Alleged Cousin” matched the “Cousin” at all 11 loci tested. That means the Y-STR values were the same at every one of those 11 locations. This is consistent with the two men sharing the same paternal line,
11 Y-STR loci is a relatively small Y-STR panel by modern standards. A match at 11 loci can establish that the two men are compatible with having a common paternal-line ancestor, but it generally cannot establish how closely they are related.
My only negative is that 11 markers tested is a very small number but it is what it is.
So after some time and expend efforts new DNA tests are performed as below and reported on page 46.
So Frank (english side ) and Finn ( Norwegian side ) are tested at 37 Markers by 'FTDNA. Acceptable testing site and enough markers to make the test useful. Page 46
Results are
A Genetic Distance of 4 means that there was a match on 33 out of the 37 DNA-marker tests (33/37 match).
I think that Jane put the results well and I concur " It seems that Daniel (father of Kristian) is possibly -but not likely - the point of connection."
I would have expected a Genetic Distance of 1 or 2 at the most. That is the two participants would have had the same 36 or 35 markers.
Here for example is my test results at the same firm FTDNA but at 67 markers. I have only included two matches here, but I had four matches total with GD of 4. All of them from England and all at a genealogical distance beyond where the results are of use to me;

Well it was an interesting read. It would seem from the paper trail that has been presented here that Cristian Tompson (various spellings) is the same person as
Kristian Elias Danielsen Strømme BIRTH: 02 NOV 1882 • Volda, Møre og Romsdal, Norge
However the DNA results indicate that while the two individuals tested do share a common ancestor that ancestors is further back in time than Daniel Johannes Danielsen Strømme the father of Kristian Elias Danielsen Strømme.
Thus the DNA test did not clinch the argument as all hoped it would.
