I read the marriage record as follows:
Ungk Lars Aanensen, Baa af Høklied Sogn 26 Aar
P Gunil Osmundsdt Hougom 30 Aar
Ole Holjesen, Hokom
Michel Aanesen, Klepsland
23 Novbr ditto (i.e. i kirken)
Ole Holjesen = Ole Hyljessen see 1801
Michel Aanesen = Michel Aanonssen see 1801
Gunil Osmundsdt = Gunnild Osmundsdtr see 1801
her parents being Osmund Gundersen and Marthe Aanonsdatter.
The clue here will be to find "the Sogn" Lars came from, I have not found it yet.

eibache, thank you for the links and the birth dates, I have incorporated this into my ancestry data base. Following up on your identification of a Aanen Aanesen Lødyesol as the deceased father of the Lars Aanensen from Øyestad, Braastad farm. Searching for Lødyesol farm in the 1801 census turns up two in Øyestad. A Løydesøel Store and Løydesøel Lille. Under the Løydesøel Store there is a Aanon Giølsen age 60 with a wife, Marte Jørgensdatter and four children ages 6 to 18. Could this be the father of Aanen Aanesen Lødyesol and could his son Lars Aanensen be the same Lars Aanensen who married Gunhil Osmundsdatter in Evje.

But the 4 year old Lars Aanonsen is living on Braastad farm with his widowed mother in 1801. Since his father is deceased - his name is not listed in the census.

I don't understand where you've gotten the Løydesøel farms from. How did they get introduced into this search? What is the source for that?

I see that, thank you for pointing to the source.
So in July 1797 the family resides on Braastad and in 1801 the widow and the children are back on Braastad.
When the husband died they could have been living on one of the Løydesøel farm plots - but that isn't really explained completely by the singular mention of the farm name.

Perhaps you should delve into the Øyestad bygdeboks - "Øystad Bygdebok", 2 volumes by Kjeli J. Bråstad.

- after a reasonable search for the "Høklied" Sogn I think I was wrong in deciphering the text.
Since the writing of H and M in gothic is similar it is more likely that the "Sogn" is Møkland - it is in Aust-Agder and Omblie was a parish in Møkland.
Lars came from the farm Baas when he was married at Vestre Hougom in Wegusdal Sogn and Evie parish. He was most likely born at another farm in 1796 or 1791?
Baptismal record of April 14 1791 is #7
parents as in the 1801 census but they were living at the Næss Vestre farm. The reason - the parents of Tore Tengelsdatter, Aanons wife, Tengel Olsen and Inge Gundersdatter lived there.
Aanon and Tore were "Trolovet" Jan 23 1791, see
#1

Aanon Aanonsen must have died then about the same time as his youngest child Siri was born since she was just 1 year old at the 1801 census. Also would you expect that the parish archive birth record for Lars of April 14, 1791 would be more accurate than the census age of 4 years old. He would have been about 10 at the census if he was born in 1791.

I will go next week to the U of Minn library to look at several bygdebok including Hopkins suggestion of looking at the 2 volumes for Øyestad. At present my very tentative line runs.
Aanon Giølsen b 1740 Løydesøel
Aanon Aanonsen b 1764
Lars Aanonsen b 1791
Olav Larsen b 1837
eibache, I wonder if you can make any connection between Aanon Giølsen and Aanon Aanonsen through the parish archives

In the census for Gierrestad Lars is 10 years old!
Due to the handwriting in 1764 I have not been able to see any connection between Aanon Aanonsen and Aanon Giølsen.

The most likely Lars Aanensen:

Aanen Aanensen and Berthe Tharaldsdatter Braastadeiet, Øyestad christened a son Lars July 16 1797
In 1801 census Aanen Aanensen was dead, he died in 1798 34 years old – born approx 1764
Lars Aanensen, Baas, Møkland (Omblie) 26 years old (born 1797) married Gunil Osmundsdatter, Vestre Hougom, Wegusdal, Evie in 1823
Lars Aanensen and Gunil Osmundsdatters children
Aanon Larsen b Dec 13 1823 Haukom, Vegusdal, Aust Agder, christened Jan 11 1824
Osmund Larsen b March 13, christened April 9 1826, Haukom, Vegusdal, Aust Agder
Gunder Larsen b June 28, christened August 3 1828, Baas, Åmli, Aust-Agder
Tarald Larsen b 1833
Ole Larsen b June 19, christened July 23 1837 Støylsjordet Høgeli, Tovdal i Åmli, Aust-Agder, d 16 April 1892 Skjaeggedal, Aust Agder and
Harver Larsen birth date unknown
Lars Aanensen, Høgeli, Omblie 66 years old (born 1796) died 1862

The other Lars Aanensen:
Aanen Larsen, Næs, Gjerstad and Tore Tengelsdatter christened a son Lars April 14 1791
- he would have been 33 years old at the time he possibly married a Gunil Osmundsdatter, the mother of his children. In the marriage record it says Lars was 26 years old.

eibache, thank you for putting the information together, I think I was starting to get the various Lars confused in my head. I will post the results of my search of the Øyestad bydgebok after I have some time to reveiw it. Maybe it will give some clue to the father of Aanen Aanensen. Again thank you for all your help..

Reading of Øyestad Bygdebok Bind 2 was very interesting It reads as follows

Aanon Aanonsen Vrengen, død 1800, gift med 1, Signe Aslaksdatter, barn, Gunhild født 1780, Gunder født 1786, Aanon født 1788, gift med 2, Berte Taraldsdatter 1761+1805, barn, Tarald føddt 1792, Lars født 1797, Signe født 1800.

Nearby pages include the information that Berte Taraldsdatter is the daughter of Tarald Hansen 1737-1787 gift med Helje Beruldsdatter and Helje is the daughter of Beruld Svensen død 1734 gift med Anne Iversdatter død 1751 and a Beruld is listed as the son of Svend Magensen født ca 1638

So we can at least on the female side go back a long ways. However I have not yet located a farm called Vrengen in the Øyestad Bygedebok although Google shows a Vrengen located quite near Arendal. Any information on Vrengen would be appreciated.
