The Inman Line agent in Trondhjem was authorized to convey emigrants via Hull to Liverpool and from there to New York and on to the final destination. This means that your people crossed by train from Hull to Liverpool to board the Inman Line ship for New York there.

They could have been passengers on the Inman Line steamship the “City of Richmond” who arrived in New York June 17, 1877 (Information from newspapers 1877)

I can't thank you all enough!!! It was so wonderful to come home from work and find your messages!!!!!THANK YOU!!!!!!I've always been interested in my Mother's family, from Norway and I recently learnt, some from Germany and other countries. Not knowing either of my grandparents,I've always felt some type of bond.More so with my Mother "gone",also. She passed on in May of 1967 when I was a mere 22 yrs. old.At a very young age...59....I'm now 57.Your rapid response has filled me with hope that I will learn more and more about my ancestors and living relatives.A treasure to pass to my children, their children, and now to my great grandchildren as they grow.Once again:MANY MANY THANKS and God Bless!!! I am also looking for the ship my husband's grandfather sailed on: Lars Steen Nilssen in 1877. His wife, Josefine Amelia Bisgaard followed on a later ship when he could afford to send for her. They may have sailed from Trondheim or Christiana (?) They settled in Clearlake, Wisconsin. Lars was born on August 24, 1847 in Hallem, Vaerdalen, Josefine was born in Kongsberg on Nov. 12, 1853. One of my husband's cousins got much of family info from Njaal Pharo (cousin in Oslo in the 1970's. I'm also hoping to contact family in Norway. I appreciate any information you might give me. Thank you Diane Nilssen (No. California USA).

Lars Sten Nilssen went on the ship Tasso, Inman line in 1879, not 1877. You will find him on the Norwegian statsarkivet, there is a link on this side, somewhere... He went from Trondheim, has "løpenummer" 1444. There it is Sten, not Steen. His recidense then was Steinkjer, a place about 50-60 km from Verdal. I am living in Trondheim, 140 km from Steinkjer. I will bring this message to some one who know that place better. If there is family left, we will find them.

I just want to add that he was probably crossing on the S/S City of Brussels of the Inman Line which departed from Queenstown on Septembet 17th (probably departed from Liverpool a day or so before) and arrivad to New York on September 26th with 580 passengers
See: Index of emigrant ships arrivals 1879-1888
Good work Hanne, I actually overlooked him when searching the DA

You know, Børge, it is easy to find people in Norway. I am looking for people in America, that is NOT easy. I have been looking for 4 or 5 years and find nothing! I live in Trondheim and have been several times at statsarkivet, but that doesn`t solve my problem. Can`t you make a list over all people in America with Norwegian ancestors, with their Norwegian names, farmnames, parents, siblings etc.??? That would be a realy nice hobby to do in Rissa, don`t you think???? :-))

I have some more information on Lars Steen Nilssen, like on his parents and siblings. An uncle in his mother's side also emigrated (Paul Steen). Is any of this of interest to you?
