I am going to Norway this summer and want to visit the family farm. Stolde Church records indicate my great grandfather was named Hendrick Hendricksson of Kallestabachen farm (Henry Henryson in America). I have used the kart/finn.no map recommended by several of you. Despite hours of searching farms near Etne, I have had no luck.
Our family records have an unsigned/undated entry stating that ""The farm that he (Lars) was born in was then called Kallestadbakken but is now called Ostebo.". I have also searched for Ostebo with no luck.
Anyone have any ideas? |

Stødle church
The oldest part of the church build ca 1160 by Earl Erling Skakke and was his private church.

Was your Lars born after 1865?
Most likely his parents Henrik Henriksen and Engeborg Knudsdatter, a son Knud, a daughter Madela and a fosterson Haagen on Kallestadbakken 1865

Correction. Your Lars was born Marc 27.1822 and it was his half brother Henrik b. 1814 who takes over Kallestad also called Kaldestadbakken.
3 of Lars siblings Guro. Torkjell and Asmund also em. to America.

It could be that Ostebo is Øvstebø (upper Bø), look at the map here.

I think Østebø and Øvstebø is the same farm. In official papers in Etne the name Østebø is used but marked Øvstebø in the official map for properties in Etne link

I can not find Kallestad - Kaldestadbakken, but a new barn was build on the farm 1979. Owner; Lars Sævereide.

I just checked with the farm on Facebook, they don't think it is the same location. I would love to know the location as well. I did find Lars Henryson and his brothers baptismal certificate! I am getting closer!
