Looking for information on John Christophersen, born Norway, fathered a child in Columbia County, WI in 1859. Records shows, Born July 24, 1859; baptized August 22. Child, Christopher;Spring Prairie. Parents, John Christophersen, bachelor; born Norway. and maiden Britha Aadsdatter. I have all the information on her, but father is still a mystery. Britha was married in 1862 to Hans Hansen who adopted Christopher. What happened to John Christophersen? Britha was actually Britha Knudsdatter as her father was Knud Aadsen of Voss.

Calmut County, Norwegian settler John Christophersen from Ĝstre Slidre, Valdres area, settled down at Hayton in 1883, but he is the only Norwegian in this area and goes to the Norwegian church in Valders, Manitowoc Co. |

Thank you to both of you. That does appear to be his baptism but the names are really messed up. His name was John Christophersen and her name was actually Britha Knudsdatter, but was listed as Britha Aadsdatter on the baptism. I haven't been able to find anything on John Christophersen since the baptism record, so I will check out the one from Valdres. Britha was born in Evanger, Voss, Hordaland in 1824. In 1862 she married my g. grandfather Hans Hansen Bolstad and he adopted Christopher who became Christopher Hanson. He is the half brother to my Grandfather John Hanson who took the last name of Mestad as on adult. His father, Hans Hansen, lived on Mestad in Evanger at the time of his confirmation. Very confusing! |

Maybe a long shot to look in the ELCA records for a John Christphersen living in areas near Dane County. There is only one hilt
Tough to read the names of the witnesses but one might be Eric Bratt?

This might be Peter and family in the 1870 Census.
Peter Kiretopherson in the 1870 United States Federal Census Name: Peter Kiretopherson [Peter Tosterud Tostrud] Age in 1870: 3 Birth Year: abt 1867 Birthplace: Wisconsin Dwelling Number: 143 Home in 1870: Christiana, Vernon, Wisconsin Race: White Gender: Male Occupation: At Home Father of Foreign Birth: Y Mother of Foreign Birth: Y Inferred Father: John Kiretopherson Inferred Mother: Marthe Kiretopherson Household Members: Name Age John Kiretopherson 36 Marthe Kiretopherson 36 Clara Kiretopherson 12 Mina Kiretopherson 7 Charles Kiretopherson 5 Peter Kiretopherson 3 Ella Kiretopherson 6/12
A tree gives this information on John
John Christopherson Tosterud BIRTH 5 MAY 1834 Hurdals, Feiring, Norway DEATH 11 AUG 1915 Vernon, Wisconsin, USA
A connection to Eric above as they are both from the same parish in Norway but a real stretch to connect this guy to your John Christophersen in Dane County. |

Might be the same guy as the one from Vernon (Bad Ax) county, since he was living there in the 1860 Census. Maybe a reach tho to connect him to OP's John Christophersen.

I wonder if this is not the mother of Christopher Christopehrsen and thus the sister of Aad Haldorsen. Aad is a witness for the baptism of Christopher in the ELCA record.
