Wow. This is fantastic. Thank you Anton. And the newspaper obit is intriguing as well. I assume that "Begraves ved Spind Kirke" is the funeral service, but it may also indicate burial in the church cemetery, correct? Contemplating a trip there this summer.

Tore, you are correct, I was misspelling "Dareid". I was wondering if "Daaro" was a location--as in a "city"--that distinguished "Johannes Andreassen" but you are indicating it was the farm itself? On the link to the map you provided earlier, "Dareid" is indicated on the map as a specific farm. In the lower right hand corner of that map, you can click on different views. The view on the right hand side lists several "Dareid" on the map, including one directly "above" the pinpoint mark, and one to the left up on the hill. Does this indicate a general place, or something more specific, like a hill or land related to the farm?

"Begraves ved Spind Kirke" means that he was going to be buried by Spind Church, and almost certainly in the church cemetery. It is unlikely, however, that the grave still exists. Over the past decade(s) a quite extensive database of existing Norwegian graves has been assembled, and his grave doesn't seem to be there.

There are at least two and by now possibly several Dåreid farms. The original farm was split in two some years before Johannes and his brother bought one of the halves, but I haven't found any information in the book that locates their half relative to the other. Also the distinction between farm names and general area names is often quite fuzzy. Possibly something more specific can be said in this case, but I am not the person to do so. There is a Spind History Society that might be able to help you more. Don't hesitate to contact them in English, most Norwegians today are quite able in English.

It is likely that using the various trees and confirming the path set up by the original baptism and marriage records one can take your family history back to about 1600's.

Bolette died later in the same year as Johannes. Newspaper notice. Her grave doesn't seem to exist today, either.
