Note the mention of Honolulu, connecting this record to the one for Ole Viktorin last above. (Ole Viktorin disappeared in Hawaii, and Ole William entered the USA from Hawaii.) So maybe not such a long shot after all.

Marriage of Ole Victorin's parents in 1885. His mother was an Andreasdatter, cf. "Andersen" in the original post.

The missing sailor's list was published in 1922. I wonder who was looking for him at that time and why.

On the naturalization record, it says his most recent foreign residence was Hamburg Germany. There is a database at Ancestry of sailors working from Germany, might be worth a look, German records tend to be detailed.

Ole Viktorin was from a large family, clues about him and his whereabouts might be found looking for the siblings. Dødfallsprotokol for his father and his mother might also tell whereabouts.

In the censuses 1900, 1910 the family uses the father's patronym of Andersen. In the 1920 census the children are using Johansen, mother is Andreasen. I suspect the change may have occurred when the father died in 1912, Ole Viktorin was under 18 at the time. Sailor life can start earlier than 18 and usually does, but perhaps the father's demise fed into that as well?

In the naturalization record, Ole says he arrived on or about 14 April 1914 on board the Sierra from Honolulu at San Francisco.

There is a steamer named Sierra recorded in the newspaper San Francisco ChronicleSat, Apr 11, 1914 ·Page 15 as arriving 10 April 1914, having travelled from Honolulu 5 days, 13 hours and 42 minutes, Captain Houdlette includes passengers and merchandise for J.D. Spreckels & Bros. Co.

Is there anyone with a birthdate of 22 Jan 1892 at Fredrikstad?

Appears to be only one:
https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/census/person/pf01036408003180

Here is his marriage record #16 from 1919
https://goto.digitalarkivet.no/kb20051108010389

His father is named Johan Magn. Paulsen Grøndal and his father's occupation is boat builder.

Paul Grøndal is still in Norway in 1923 for birth of his son Paul, so cannot have changed name, nor moved to New Zealand.

Another set of those possibles are these named Ole Vil* born 1892, numbers 40 of them (306 if born 1890-1899):
https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/search/persons/advanced?from=&to=&firstname=ole+vil*&lastname=&birth_year_from=1892&birth_year_to=1892&birth_date=&birth_place=&domicile=&position=&event_year_from=&event_year_to=&event_date=&related_first_name=&related_last_name=&related_birth_year=

This (the larger of 306) search does pick up those which start Wil also including Villy, Willy etc.

Same as the above except the name is "Olaf Vil*":
https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/search/persons/advanced?from=&to=&firstname=olaf+vil*&lastname=&birth_year_from=1892&birth_year_to=1892&birth_date=&birth_place=&domicile=&position=&event_year_from=&event_year_to=&event_date=&related_first_name=&related_last_name=&related_birth_year=&sort=rel

There are a number on this 2nd list who have birthdate one or two days off of 22 Jan 1892.

I still think Ole Viktorin looks promising. Would there be reasons for him to cheat on his age at arrival in America? (Age limits for citizenship applications? Better pay as a sailor?)
