I had been a member of the forum of the Digitalarkivet and posting until recently but in trying to register with my new email the process went awry. Operator error, I'm sure but how to fix is unclear.

A Ryan Vogt recently posted there with a request regarding the Sagadalen farm in Flå, Hallingdal from the bygdebøker which I wanted to help with. I see his post has had 97 views but no response. His requested information includes anything from the Flå bygdebøker on 4 of his ancestors. So I will post what I can here, with the hope that Anton or whoever is inclined can post a notice on his request at the Forum, to look here.

Sagadalen GNR 11, Bnr 16 is in Volume 3 of the Flå bygdebok and on page 475 is information about his ancestor Hans Olsen, page 476-477 for Kristoffer Hansen and page 476 for Hans Kristoffersen.

This is Ryan Vogt.

jkmarler, thanks so much for taking the time to respond with the page references! I was starting to think my request might be too specific on the Digitalarkivet forum. I'm so excited those individuals were contained in those pages. I'm fortunate to have inherited some breadcrumbs to these ancestors with facts from a family friend/researcher in the 1990s, but I didn't have any citations; now thanks to you I'm gradually starting to build them. I've also recently learned how to view vital and other records on Digitalarkivet.

In respecting copyright, would anyone with access to Volume III be willing to snap smartphone photos of these three specific pages (475-477), and send them to me via Direct Message (DM)? Having the full images of these pages to study the contextual farm history would mean the world to our family.

Through a related family line I've been learning the social history behind farms in Myra village in Jarvso Parish, Sweden, so I'm hoping there's bits of Heie farm history contained in here in pgs 475-477 so I can build an equally rich understanding on the Norwegian side. The wonderfully historic and well-preserved farm cultures of these two countries fascinate me.

Hi Ryan,

If you're near Northfield Minnesota between 29 July-1 Aug this year you may want to attend the Hallinglag stevne being held then. We have a "pop up" library of Hallingdal bygdebøker and a few other resources at the meeting in which you might want to research further. We do these meetings every year along with the library, which I have responsibility for. The library will be open 1-5 Wed 29 July, Friday 9:-5, Saturday 9-12.

If not, I did make hard copy of the pages which I could street mail to you. Posting at NorwayHeritage is not something I've accomplished. I'm unsure if I can technically deal with your other mentioned modes of communication, but I can do ordinary scan and attach to ordinary email.

As in most cases, you will almost immediately want access to the other Flå volumes as well as those of Nes and probably other Hallingdal parishes as you go back in time, as well as neighboring, non Hallingdal parishes.

For instance, your ancestor Hans Kristoffersen married a woman from Nes and according to the info in the bygdebok, appears to have lived in Nes most of the time as an adult before he came to America. That might also be why Hans' son wasn't listed in the article. He'll most likely be dealt with in the proper Nes volume (All of which the Lag owns except Volume 6 and which will also be in Northfield)

There is a bit of family information on Ole Sagadalen (son of Kristoffer most likely) and others in Hallingen the publication of the Hallinglag and this particular issue is available at Hathitrust.org:

If all goes well, this link should take you to a map of Sagadalen.

It is still in operation today but according to the Norsk Gårdsbruk from 1995 the buildings on the place all date from the time after your ancestors lived there.
