If your family hales from Sogndal i Dalene check out these websites for a virtual "holy grail" of information. For family records, check out Stein Norem Witsted's site at: www.sosialklubben.net/~snw/aettesoge/aettesoge.htm

I found both my grandparents families back to the 16th century here and was able to track their movements between the farms. Start with your farm/family name, open the record, scroll to the bottom of the listings for the most recent ancestors and work your way back up. Stein even cross-referenced records between farms. Remember the family name changed every generation so if your not sure, use the father's first name as the previous generations family name.

For beautiful photos and historical info of Sogndal, check out Otto and Wenche's website at www.ottarp.com. I found my great uncle Karl Knubedal's home there for example, photo taken in 2002. Now I feel so much closer to my ancestry thanks to this site. What beautiful country.

Heather, understand why you were confused by Stein's website. He reorganized it and moved pages. Here is the current URL that will give you his geneology home page. Upper left corner, click English to read the history.

URL is: http://www.sosialklubben.net/~snw/slekt.htm

Sorry to take so long to answer, have been compiling records now rather than searching the web.
