The Foldenfjord was built in 1921 by Sun Ship Building Co. in Chester, PA. Her details were: Tonnage: 7,277 tons gross, 6,575 under deck and 5,054 net. House on deck 252 tons; Bridge 163 tons; Poop 386 tons. Propulsion: triple expansion engine with 3 cylinders of 27, 45 ½ & 76 inches diameter respectively; stroke 51 inches; 412 nominal horse power; engine built by the same company as the hull. She was a steel construction, with a single screw, 2 decks, longitudinal framing, machinery aft, fitted for oil fuel, equipped with electric light & wireless; carrying petroleum in bulk, water ballast.
