The information listed above is not the complete record of the ship. The information was collected from a multitude of sources, and new information will be added as it emerges
The first recorded voyage with emigrant on the bark Inga is in 1853. She departed from Kragerø June 24th, and arrived at Quebec Aug. 16th. She was mastered by Capt. Eilertsen. Because the National Archives of Canada [NAC] did not start the archiving of passenger lists before 1865, and the Norwegian emigration records did not start before 1867, there is no surviving passenger list for this voyage in any of those archives. Timeline to records.

Morgenbladet April 18th, 1854

This newspaper notice from "Morgenbladet" on April 18th 1854, states that the ship Inga, mastered by Capt. Eilertsen and owned my merchant T. Thomesen, departed from Kragerø on April 8th for Quebec with about 200 emigrants. Among the emigrants there were several people from the surrounding district of Risør, and a few crafts families from the town, the other emigrants came from different places in Norway. (source host: Kragerø Adr.) The Inga arrived at Quebec May 25th. There is no surviving passenger list, see above.

In 1857 the Inga arrived at Quebec May 25th from Kragerø, mastered by Capt. Olsen. No surviving passenger list, see above. In 1862 she departed from Kragerø Apr. 7th, and arrived at Quebec June 3rd. Master was Capt. Evensen. According to a report she was carrying at least 24 steerage passengers. No surviving passenger list, see above. In 1866 the bark Inga departed from Kragerø Apr. 19th and arrived at Quebec May 30th. She was sailing in ballast, and was carrying 54 steerage passengers and 1 cabin passenger. 21 men - 18 women - 9 boys - 6 girls - 1 infant. She was mastered by Capt. A. Larsen and had a crew of 13. The passenger list for this voyage is kept at the National Archives of Canada. The list has been transcribed and is included in our online passenger list database. It is not determined whether the Inga sailing in 1854 and in 1866 actually is the same ship or not, but it is very likely.
