This newspaper notice from
"Morgenbladet" on April 27th, 1854

This newspaper notice from "Morgenbladet" on April 27th 1854, states that the brig Urda of Kragerø, mastered by Capt. Hvistendal had departed from Stavanger on April 20th. Her destination was Quebec. She was carrying 143 passengers, among them 105 persons from Stavanger town. (65 adults, 29 persons age 1 - 14, and 11 infants less than one years old). Most of the emigrants on the Urda in 1854 were coopers with their families. The reason why there were so many coopers emigrating was because the fishery had been bad the latest years. (source host: Stavanger Amtstidene) The Urda arrived at Quebec June 22nd.
