We are looking for a "needle in a haystack"! Is there a farm in Norway by the name of "Wollum"? We are trying to locate information on ancestors of Andrew Anderson who lived in northern Iowa/southern Minnesota. He is buried at Trinity Lutheran, rural Thompson, Iowa; previously the address was rural Bricelyn, Minnesota. We believe he changed his name to Anderson from Wollum or something similar. I will keep searching but would appreciate any help.

Vollum farms exist in Hedmark, Oppland, Møre og Romsdal and Sør Trøndelag.

Would Andrew be in family with the Vollum's that lived in Albert Lea, Freeborn, MN? This is only 45 mins from rural Thompson, Iowa.
They originated from Halsa, Møre & Romsdal. Thore Gundersen Vollum, born ab. 1849 emigrated ab. 1878, and was home for a visit in 1898.
T.G. Vollum and his wife Unni had several children:
- Alfred Theodore Vollum (1887-1951)
- Edward Oscar Vollum (1880-1928)
- Gilbert Vollum
- Ida Vollum Sola
- Martin Vollum
- Minnie Gunhild Vollum Fretheim (1877-1946)
- Nels Vollum

Last name not precise, but is this Andrew?

Jan Peter questioned whether Andrew could be Andrew Lium on the posted link. I don't think so because he's not buried at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Iowa - he is buried in Bricelyn, Faribault, Minnesota. A public family tree on Ancestry.com calls this Andrew "Anders Gunderson Lium," born 13 Jul 1869 in Norway, died 1950 in Bricelyn.

At Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Eden Township, Section 15, Winnebago County, Iowa, is the resting place of

A. P. Anderson
born 25 Jun 1839
died 02 Nov 1897

The transcription for this cemetery does not include anyone named Vollum or Wollum.

It might not be them, but for the record, here is their correct p.o.b., which is wrong @ ancestry.com.

Okay, I removed the place name from my post re. the Ancestry.com public family tree, so as not to repeat the incorrect information. Thanks.

I have additional information on Andrew A. Anderson. He was born April 18, 1872 and died August 6, 1962 at Bricelyn, Minnesota. His wife's name was Sophie Satre (in the church records it says" nee Hannah"; I don't know what that could mean). She was born February 1, 1881 and died September 23, 1940. She died from tuberculosis. Both are buried at North Blue Earth Lutheran Cemetery, rural Bricelyn, Minnesota. The information was wrong about Trinity Lutheran, Thompson, Ia. Perhaps Andrew's parents could be buried there - I don't know. Andrew and Sophie had several children; those that I can name are Alvin, Harvey, Iler, Byron and 2 sisters were Lois and Pearl. I think there were at least a couple more children. We have heard that they came to southern Minnesota area from Story City, Iowa, area.

Your Andrew was born in Kansas by Norwegian-born parents. They emigrated about 1864, and first settled in Illinois, before moving to Kansas around 1867-1869. Then continuing to Story, Iowa between 1894-1899.
I think his parents could be Peter & Britha "Betsy" Anderson.

Andrew A Anderson @ findagrave.com

This seems like Andrew's brother Rasmus Anderson and his wife Nellie Jane Gardner Anderson
Geneva Melba Harkins, 91, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006, in Clay Center; born Sept. 17, 1914, in Clay County, the daughter of Rasmus and Nellie Jane (Gardner) Anderson; married John Lee Harkins Nov. 13, 1947; he preceded her in death Dec. 2, 1978; preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters; burial in Sherman Cemetery.

I have't seen any connection to Wollum in these records. Where was that found?

The mother to Andrew Anderson must have emigrated before 1867.
The Berthe Rasmusd on the ship Urania is her younger sister born 01 Sep 1849
