| Nils Langeland | Iroquois County, Illinois | Pioneer; among the founders of the Beaver Creek settlement in 1837, which later suffered a tragic fate. The settlers arrived during the dry season, unaware that the low-lying land would flood in winter. Widespread disease and death followed, and only a few of the settlers managed to leave the area. |
