Anton posted the actual record itself on this page 4. Always better to see the actual than to only rely on someone's digest or AI to understand it. Their ages are given in years, months and days but when I put them into my program's calculator the actual dates match both Jennie 7 April and the Ben Johnson in Kansas City, Missouri of 31 Jan, the years of the dates are a bit off. The original on Ben years is written a little wonky could be a 5 or 6 or a malformed 8. Jennie's gives her a birth year of 1891, soooo, humans are a mess.
It's reasonably certain that the prisoner at Lethbridge, Alberta in 1911 is the right guy year of birth 1885 and year of migration of 1906 to be the Ben Johnson in Kansas City. It'd be good to find out what he did to end up in prison...
There might be a connection as one of the Ben Johnsons at Kansas City was mentioned in the paper as being a liquor regulator who got caught doing something illegal with the liquor he had confiscated on the job. Actually bribing his fellow officers. He got fired as a result. This was right around 1918 or so & might explain why the "bloom was off the rose" at that point in the marriage. The language in his notice about his lack of responsibility for his wife's debts is pretty standard language as a marriage is breaking up. However, he apparently didn't file for divorce, Jennie did.
Re the Elsie Johnson widow, as I said there was one with that description living in the city in 1920. The estate record was a little weird all the way round. Usually they make several points about the value of the estate and who all the heirs at law are but there seems to be a lack of that kind of information. Since we know Ben's father was Swedish and the Elsie Johnson in KC is Swedish and about 15 years older than Ben, I'm wondering if the authorities in the county got the relationship wrong and that she might be a relative but not just his wife. More things to look for.
But Ruth Bicknell had the basic information about her biological father when she decided to get her delayed birth certificate. When my grandparents applied to get Social Security Numbers, because they had no governmentally supplied birth certificates from their time, they had to supply what they could. My grandma got an affidavit from her father and her aunt, recalling what date she was born and where and submitted those records. So Ruth had similar kind of stuff to get her certificate. It would seem a bit late for her to get her SSN but perhaps there was some other purpose to serve but similar to that,
We are deep in the weeds on this.... |

This is one of online directory operations about Steven L Bicknell:
"Quick Facts The birth year was listed as 1945. His age is 80. 11916 Wagner Strt, Culver City, CA 90230-5849 is the current address for Steven. Ava M Stone is connected to this place. Renting a two bedroom apartment in the zip code 90230 may cost you $2,610 per month, PD&R says. The popularity rank for the name Steven was 222 in the US in 2020, the Social Security Administration's data shows....."
It appears that the property is still in the family.
Here's Ava's relationship: "Nevada, Marriage Index, 1956-2005", FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VVRZ-VNJ : Tue Sep 23 01:53:08 UTC 2025), Entry for Steven Lee Bicknell and Ava Marie Stone, 03 Jun 1993.
Albert John Bickell's WW2 draft card shows 4 different addresses for he and Christine: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CS2K-QSL7-1?view=index&personArk=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3AQGXY-PD2J&action=view&cc=2786603&lang=en&groupId=
