A mystery then, where are the photos?
Perhaps he tried to attach and send thru the system on site?
Or perhaps he used it in this book, he wrote?

A family in Norway approached RRVGS in 2004 looking for help in searching for a relative named Madli Halldorsdatter who had come to America early in the 1900s. She married a man, a Swede they thought and his last name was Svenson or something similar. They had 2 children probably born before 1910 a girl named Margaret and a boy named Philip. They had a picture of the family taken in a studio in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Since Madli was Norwegian I volunteered to look and did an extensive amount of research but found nothing. I emailed the family in Norway of the lack of luck.
However a couple of years ago I was rummaging in my bucket list (you know of impossible researches) and decided to look again and only looked in the census online at Ancestry for boys born in North Dakota between 1904-1910 with the first name Philip and lo and behold found a family in Grand Forks in 1910 and Wisconsin in 1920. The Svenson clue was not correct, Anderson was the last name and if I hadn't chucked the Svenson clue I would never have made the connection! The family moved from North Dakota sometime after 1915 to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Philip married and had at least one daughter before the 1930 census. So I suppose Philip must have been your great grandfather and that he had a boy after 1930 who could become the Anderson name carrier and your granddad.
I was going through some old copies of Viking, the Sons of Norway magazine and found that the family in Norway had been looking for Madli & her family since at least 1995. I emailed them again when I made my breakthrough but the mail came back as undeliverable.
I also visit the forums at www.norwayheritage.com and a man named Tore Vassdal put up a query in 2010 about another of the family members who came to America (an uncle of Madli). Here is the topic from norwayheritage.com, you can join the forum (it's free) and post to the query and I think you might also get email privileges after an initial period so that you can email Tore yourself.

Your great great grandparents were Madli Halldorsdatter and Albert Anderson. They were actually married in Grand Forks County, see address below. Madli had transformed her name to "Mollie Nelson." When you get acquainted with Norwegian research, that will make sense, too.

You should also take a look at www.genealogybank.com. If you click on "Historical Newspaper" and select North Dakota and then search for Philip Anderson you will find a couple of newspaper articles in which he and Margaret are mentioned as attending and participating in a Scandinavian Baptist church.
Your question about Sylvia's d.c. is found at the same website as the North Dakota Public Death Index if you click on "Purchase a copy" order information will pop up. I think the d.c. are about $5/each and they take credit cards. Most likely Sylvia is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Forks. It was the largest and oldest and only non-denominational cemetery in G.F. at the time, but burial info will probably be on the d.c.

| Hello all. I'd like to remind everyone Madli & Albert are my great great grandparents. Direct descendant. I have all the records. Marriage, birth, death, census, city directory, emigration, immigration, family lineage going back many, many generations in Norway. Both in Bergen & Buskerud. The name for Albert's father is Fengar. America loved butchering his name. Not Fengal, Fingle, Finger, Finger, Finnl or any other variant HAHA! I'm interested in photos & living relatives. Learning about my family is very important. I also know where Albert & Madli are buried & working with the cemetery to provide headstones since they could only afford their plots without markers. I'm grateful for your help & encourage you to keep researching, as will I. This forum has actually been a pin prick that has produced a wealth of information, so thank you to everyone involved! I hope to reach living relatives & view photos to provide more insight & connection. Thanks All! |
