My grandfather Henry Henrysen immigrated to the USA in 1898 when he was 19. We believe he sailed from Stavanger, Norway. How can I find the date he left and the name of the ship he sailed on? I believe he landed in the port of Philadelphia, Penna. USA. Any information would be appreciated.

Hello Catherine

There is a problem with Stavanger, as the emigration records from Stavanger was lost in a fire. Some of the records has been reconstructed, and is online at the Digitalarkivet.

The best chance is probably to look for him in the Philadelphia passenger lists. You can read more about how to find passenger lists in our article "Hunting passenger lists":
