I got a message today with the subject:National library makes bygdebøker available as digitised books
Nasjonalbiblioteket
I'm able to make my way thru theDigitalarkivet (with the help of your site from time to time). I've read a few of the bygedøker I've gotten thru WorldCat. I think this new resource, might help take me to the next level.
Could anyone give a brief overview or example of how to find something? |

Hi, use the search function here. See help about the search function. The archive contains more than 50.000 books. Note: Due to copyright, some books are only available from Norwegian IP-addresses.

I'm very low level functional in norwegian. So the help blows me away. When I get into a bygdebøk, I've got my online translator up.
If you could give an example?? Say for Lotenboka - Svendby. The family was in Bækengen, Løten, Hedmark |

Bækengen on pages 887 - 889 here.
Maybe with some names and dates help can be provided.

Hi
This is a little off topic but here is an English guide to the Arne G. Brekke Bygdebok Collection held at the Special collections area of the Chester Fritz Library on the University of North Dakota campus. The books themselves are not digitized online but it's a huge collection (very nearly comprehensive?!)and the book title might be there:
http://bygdebok.library.und.edu/
And of course, if you are ever physically there the books would be available.

I hadn't seen that profile. The Thron listed as a stepson is my 4th great-grandfather. I was using that as an example as that is a Bygdebøk I'm familiar with.
I believe at one point you gave an example of how to use Kart1881 søk to format a search for Fie in Risør.
My thought is that a lot of people might learn how to unlock this new resource. |

Are you familiar with the baptismal record for Thron - at bottom of left page. (Actually baptized Torkild).

Hmmm... so you say the translated link I provided for the help did not work?

I thought when I brought it up the first time, it also was in Norwegian. I just re-tried it and it is in Englsh and understandable.

Than\ks! Also thanks to Jackie, that list was cool! |

Also, the UND library is very helpful, when dealing with Bygdebok searches. They will even e-mail the table of contents to you, to see if it has the information you are looking for. They've helped me a lot with my research. Good luck! Wanda |
