At the top of page 7, ToreL posted ....
“ So Susanne Marie was named after her father’s mother. This matches the probate records after Christen Nielsen Kiløen, deceased by drowning in 1793:” ....
following the link provided, I see “Merknader:Druknet ved ??bryggen”
Does this mean he drowned or that he drank himself to death? |

| Christen Nielsen Kiløen drowned, although I can't read all the details; perhaps somebody else will have a try? His burial on October 19th 1793 is in fact recorded in two different ministerial books, both for Kristiansand domprosti. The first has the briefest entry and the worst handwriting; it gives October 17th as the date of death, and says something about "bryggen" (the pier/quay). No 198 in the other book gives October 13th as the date of death, and comments that he "blev xxx i fjorden ved xxxx bryggen Natten til den 13de, og blev fundet igjen den 17 Octobr. kl. 10 1/4 formid." (Was xxx in the sea by the xxx pier on the night of the 13th, and was found again on the 17th at quarter past 10 am.) |

I am well satisfied to conclude this topic. Regarding Bertha’s older sister Inger, I will start a new topic. SUMMARY FOR THIS TOPIC:
Simon Erlandsen (30Dec1822-c.1875) from Øyer married Susanne Marie (a.k.a. Mette Susane) Nielsdatter in Stavanger 26May1842. Their five children born in Stavanger were Erik (22Jan1843- ), Christine Marie (16Dec1845- ), Nils Christian (9Sep1847- ), Johan (9Jun1850- ), and Gurine (31Jul1853- ). About 1854 Simon, Erik, Christine, and Johan arrived in the United States; fate of Susanne, Nils and Gurine is unknown.
Berthe Gurine Osmundsdatter (4Apr1823-1902) in Helvig near Egersund married 16Oct1845 Tollak Tollaksen (c. 1821- ) and they moved to Stavanger, there joining the same congregation as Simon and Susanne. Their two children were Tollef (1847-?), and Olene Wilhelmina (1Oct1851-1935). The family of four out-migrated to America in 1853, however only Bertha and Olene are found there.
Simon and Bertha married in 1855 in Chicago. Their three children Carl Theodor Simonson (1857-1880), Syverin Bertin Simonson (a.k.a. Barton , 1859-1891, my great-grandfather), and Willie Olaus Simonson (1862- before 1870). Olene married Lewis Evansen in 1876 and was widowed in 1877; She married Thomas Duncan in 1889 and had four sons but apparently no grandchildren. Simon’s Son Erik Simpson married but had no children. Daughter Christine Marie Simpson married Albert Britton a farmer in North Cape, Wisconsin and has several descendants. Johan was last seen still single.
Bertha’s sister Inger with husband and six children out-migrated to America in 1857, see new topic coming soon. |

I think the destination is Melhuus prestegjeld which is in Sør Trondelag.
Øyer prestegjeld is the location in his marriage record. |

For christenings of several of Simon Erlandsen’s younger siblings, 1830 through 1843, the Øyer parish register gives Hovssveen as the place of residence. There seems to be no such place in modern Øyer although the farm name Hovsveen is mentioned in the familysearch wiki for Øyer, Oppland. I would like to find on a map exactly where Hovssveen was.

| In the 1865 census for Øyer there is a rural residence named Hovsveen. In the 1900 census for Øyer there is a rural residence named Aasheim (før Hovsveen). Før means previously. Frans Erlandsen and Mari Torgersdater are the residents in both entries. |
