This website hosts historical passenger records, ship registers, and a community forum. Most content — passenger names, ship voyages, historical records — comes from public archival sources. If you submit our contact form, we store the name, email address, and message you provide, along with your IP address, for the purpose of responding to your inquiry.
When you leave a comment, reply in the forum or start a new forum topic, we store:
The name you give and your message (and subject or title, if given) — these are shown publicly;
Your email address — this is never shown publicly and is used only to contact you about your post and to protect the site against misuse;
Your IP address and the time of posting — used to prevent spam and abuse.
Email addresses and phone numbers written in the message itself are automatically hidden from public view.
Posts may be reviewed by us before or after they are published, and we may remove posts that break our rules. To prevent spam and abuse, we use automated checks and limits based on, among other things, your email address and IP address.
Posts from our earlier forum and guestbook have been moved to this site. They are shown with the name the writer used at the time, contact details in the text are hidden, and the old IP addresses are not kept on the new site.
If you use the contact form, we store your name, email address, the topic you choose, your message and your IP address. The message is forwarded to us by email so that we can reply.
Comments and forum posts, with the information listed above, are kept for as long as they are published on the site. Contact messages are kept for as long as we need them to answer your inquiry. You can ask us to delete your information at any time.
This website does not set any cookies for visitors. Only administrators who sign in to manage the site receive a login cookie.
The forms for comments, forum posts and the contact page use Google reCAPTCHA to protect against spam (see below). When one of these forms is shown, Google's reCAPTCHA may set its own cookies.
Google Fonts: the site loads its fonts from Google. Your browser therefore contacts Google's servers, which may see your IP address.
Google reCAPTCHA: used on the comment, forum and contact forms. It analyses how the form is used and shares data, including your IP address, with Google. Use of reCAPTCHA is subject to Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
Hosting: the site and its databases are hosted by Winserve in the United Kingdom, which processes data on our behalf.
Email: messages and notifications are sent through our email provider.
Links to other websites, such as the shop where copies of images can be bought, lead to sites with their own privacy policies.
We do not sell or otherwise share visitor information with third parties.
We do not use any analytics or tracking tools. If this changes, this page will be updated before any such tool is introduced.
You have the right to see the information we hold about you, and to have it corrected or deleted. Please use our contact page. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet).
We may update this page as the website evolves. Material changes will be noted here.
