Subject: Investigating Andreasen tree - help!

Message:

I'm in the middle of researching my Norwegian heritage and have hit a snag. I figure this forum is full of experts, so why not try here?!

I've actually found records from family members but am not sure how to go about finding dates of death for certain members. All I have to go on is a birth date and am not sure if it's accurate. Here's what I do know.

Mother: Karen (Caren?) Olin Pedersdatter
Father: Andreas Johannesen

Children: Johan? (1864)
Gudbrand (1865)
Marthin ( 1869)?
Anthon (1870)?
Gyda (1874)
Lars (1876)

What's the best way to find a date of death? I've done preliminary searches but these names are so common in Norway. HELP!

Johan Peton (could also be read as Johan Peter) was born "out of wedlock" June 15 1864, see 169. Both parents were living at Tønsaker eiet.

Guldbrand was born Jan 4 1866, see #62, parents still at Tønsaker eiet.

Gyda was born Aug 17 1873, see #2, parents now at Sandholt eiet.

A question, so we do not have to look for people who had emigrated.
I cannot find Lars b. 1876 and his wife Anne Hansdatter in the 1910 census.

Who did emigrate to Canada?

Hi!

Lars and Anne did emigrate to Canada - Winnipeg, in 1900. I've always wondered what happened to his siblings, since he didn't talk about them too much. This led me to believe that a couple of them had died at birth or shortly after.

In his records, I've only ever found a birthdate for each sibling. Always made me wonder...

As far as I know, Lars and Anne were the only ones who ever emigrated to Canada.

I'm not even sure anyone other than Gyda survived past 1900?

It's really hard to search and know if I've hit the right record.

Is there any type of BMD search site strictly for Norway, where I could find out how long Anthon and Marthin lived? They're my dead end at the moment.

I'm so happy I could cry! :)

That´s what´s great with genealogy, one can please others

If Martin or Anton do not exist in the 1900 census, either they em. og both died between 1875 and 1900.
Perhaps we can find out tomorrow, it´s midnight in Norway.

Is it best to just search the Internet to get pictures of old farms? (If they even exist?)

I'd love to actually find a street/house/farm pic that is relevant. How does one go about finding this? Do these even exist?

Not easy to find these small cotter farms, if they still exist they are probbaly used as a summer recidence.

Gyda and her mother lived on Mobraaten/Mobråten in the 1900 census.
I have a photo of Mobraaten/Mobråten Villa, not sure but I believe Villa is a smaller place in Eidsvoll, Mobråten at Villa link

The same for Tønsagerbraaten /-bråten where Lars and Anne lived with his mother and Gyda 1900.
The main farm Tønsager is spelled Tønsåker today and exist.

Hans Hansen Aasveen on Braaten in the 1910 census where he was married to his first wife Anna Østensdatters sister Thea, his son Thorvald Hansen born 1897 married twice, 3 living children (no names)
You can also investigate Anne Hansdatters siblings.
To get more information I think you have to contact the owner, click here

Did they get a daughter Anne Marie1905 in Canada or is the info. wrong.

I don´t think I have more info at the time, if you do not want to see how fare back we can get in both parish´s.

It can work well, but sometimes you meet a brick wall.
I guess first you need time to sort out the records, it can be confusing when you read it a firts time.
