I am searching for descendants of Knut Olson Brakestad (1767-1825) and Anna Brynjulvsdatter Lavikhaugen (1780-1841). My great great grandmother, Brita Knutsdatter Bragestad (1831-1911) was the only child of Anna and her second husband, Knut Olson Mestad who lived on the Brakestad farm in Eksingadalen. Brita married Odd Knutson Thoe and immigrated to the US in 1872.
We are planning a trip to Norway next year and plan to visit ancestral homes. I am interested in locating any descendants of this family tree and information about the current owner of the Brakestad farm. Thank you for any information. Kathy Sigdestad

Hi Cathy..............

I think we exchanged e-mails several years ago.

So, you are going to Norway. What fun. I wish I was going, too.

I MAY have additional information beyond what we exchanged, when we last communicated.

Have you talked with Viggo M. Fosse? He is a genealogy researcher who lives in a suburb of Bergen, and seems to have done research in Ekingedalen, and is familiar with the Brakestad family farm. I THINK he knows the current owners of the farm.

My cousin, Paul Bragstad, who happens to live in Mill Valley, and his parents, have visited the Brakestad farm several times.

Svein Ulvund, who lives near Voss, has photographed the Brakestad farm on several occasions.

And there is a fellow called "Lien," who works for Sagatex in Dale, that seems to know the current owners of the Brakestad farm.

I have more complete names and e-mail addresses for these people filed someplace. I can find them, if they will help you.

If you are interested, please phone me at 415-383-5631.

Or e-mail me at bragstad@sbcglobal.net.

Yours truly,

Jerry Bragstad (Brakestad, Bragestad)
