My Grandmother, Karen Arnesen , departed Liverpool England on 3-11-1911 on the Virginian. Last residence Norway.. The inspection card I have states "passed Quarnteen..Port of U.S. and then the letter E.. and a stamp. Is the letter E the port she came through?? The Virginian was an Allan Line ship and made sereral stops with most being Canada. Her obit. says she landed in Bottineau, North Dakota, so I think she could have taken the train from Canada to N.D... Any input would be appreciated. Elouise

Hi Carla, My Grandmother married and they farmed in the Mohall area, 680 Acres.. My mom and her 2 sisters and brother were born on the homestead..The farm is actually located in Bottineau Co... My father, also born in the Mohall area, took over the farm in 1948 after they married.. I have family all over the place back there, but at this point most of them are burried there.. I have a 1st cousin on my fathers side that lives in Bottineau now.. I was born in Minot but grew up on the family farm. We left there in 1963. Where did you live in Bottineau County? A fellow NoDaker.. Elouise

Hi Elouise, I grew up on a farm near Kramer, high school in Westhope and then lived at Lake Metigoshe for a while, I'm in California now. I have some relatives in the Mohall area, Stavem plus lots of others through out the area. My maiden name was Olson.
Have you found your grandmother in the Digitalarkivet emigrant and census records?

Hi Carla, I knew a Herman and Serine Stavem, they were one of my sisters god parents. I also new a Mary Lou Stavem.. Or maybe their name was spelled Staven, I can't remember... They had the nursing home in Westhope which my Grandmother Karen spent the last 15 years of her life.. I'm still working on checking out the other records on her.. Thanks for the info. Elouise

Hi Eloise, What a small world. Herman was my father's cousin, his mother and my grandmother were sisters.
Good Luck on your search
