Serarching for relatives or friends (or others) of John O. Tansem who settled in Clay County in 1870 (--> Tansem Town)... Grandson of John is Wallace Tansem, I'm also searching for him!

Thank you!
I am also looking for some information on where John O. came from, I cannot find him in any of the local history books from Norway.
Anything concerning the name Tansem is of interest!

The Alberta Genealogical Society has TANSEM, Mae Dorothy "Dora" (NIEBERGALL) and TANSEM, Wallace "Wally" listed under Obituaries 2001. They have an email address you could try contacting for more information

Thank you all, I am now in contact with a lady in Minnesota whose great grandfather was John O. Tansem. She is sending me some material on the Tansem family.
But, I am afraid he wasn't any of my relatives, he may have taken the Tansem name later on, and only worked on the Tansem farm before he emigrated. None of the local history books mention neither him or any of his travelling mates....

My father was Edwin John Tansem, son of John and Pauline Tansem. My father was born on January 3, 1885. Clifford Tansem was my cousin. My dad played fiddle and homesteaded in Dakotas.

I am now corresponding with a woman who is descending from John Tansem. She has sent me documents that prove that John Tansem took the Tansem name after he came to America, because there were three men (including him) named John Olesen on the same mail route. Another Ole also changed his name. I still don't know if I am related to him.

This is my first time on this site. I am married into the Tansem family. My husband is related to the late Wally Tansem (Wally was his great uncle). I'm not sure if you have figured out if you are related to Wally Tansem, but if I can help in anyway, I can try.

Hello. If anyone is still searching for information about Wally Tansem I might be able to help you. My father, Leroy Tansem was one of Wally's brothers. Both men are now deceased but there are many of their children and extended family members residing in Alberta, Canada.

Pertaining to the Tansem name, my 3rd great grandmother was Inger Tansem who married Haakon Pederson. Was she related to the John O. Tansem? Inger was born 1788 in norway.

The posting above points to this Ole Johnson born about 1806 and found in the 1865 Census for Eidsvold, Akershus, living on Tansemb. as the father of John O Tansem. Mother is named as Marie Thoresdatter.

I would assume if Inger Tansem was born in 1788 that she might be related to Ole Johnson or the mother Marie Thoresdatter. Remains to be proven of course.

How certain are you on the birth year for Inger. The only Inger I have found born before 1800 and associated with Tansem farm is Inger Gulbrandsdatter born in 1797.

1801
