My g.g.g. grandfather was Hans Olsen Roven,
born 1792, Fron, Oppland, Norway. A reference to
him can be found at this address:
http://onshus.no/html/wc04/wc04_478.htm
I am assuming that 'Roven' is a farm name but I cannot
find it on the maps of Oppland. Does anyone know
where Roven is?

Hi,
the 1900 census for Nordre Frons in Oppland shows that the farm Roven has Landnumber 48, titlenumber 2.

The main farm in the area is the one with Landnumber 48, Titlenumber 1, which is Kongsli nordre, according to the same census.

By searching here, you can locate the Kongsli farm.
Search by Stedsnavn=Kongsli and Kommune=NORD-FRON.

The Norwegian land-database from 1950 shows that the farm now is called "Rova", and by seaching for Rova and NORD-FRON you'll find the farm just east of Kongsli!

Thank you Jan and "karre n". That helped me find Rova on my Vinstra 1:50 000 map.
The marriage detail is also appreciated.

Do the records from Nord Fron go back far enough to determine
if Hans Olsen Roven had any brothers and sisters?
Or perhaps there is a bygdebok for that farm?

The Nord-Fron church records for 1816-1914 have been microfilmed by LDS and can be rented at a local Family History Center or on inter-library loan.

Hans should be in the 1801 census, I find four Hans Olsen age 8 and 9 at the following farms: Hovie, Toxen, Kongslie Nordre, Faarud. They could have moved to the Roven farm later and he emigrated from there. It is most likely would have had siblings.

Hi,
people living at the Roven farm was in the 1801-census registered under Kongslie Nordre, so this is probably your Hans; click here (# 2848)

Hans' mother is widow Mari Hansdatter (43).

His sister Marit Olsdatter (19), and brothers ุsten Olsen (15) and Peder Olsen (3) are also living there.

Their father Ole must have died around 1797-1801.
