And this would maybe give you enough to find out the rest about him......looks like he lived until 1979.
Vital record - social security death index
(skriv "starefos" (med en s) og søk ved å trykke "submit".)

Gives this result:
(looks like he was married)

THOMAS STAREFOS 28 Apr 1891- Nov 1979
02673 (West Yarmouth, Barnstable, MA) 02664 (South Yarmouth, Barnstable, MA) 020-12-9235 Massachusetts SS-5 A

GLADYS STAREFOS 02 Oct 1907 - Nov 1972
02673 (West Yarmouth, Barnstable, MA) (none specified) 031-22-5783 Massachusetts SS-5 Letter

Or maybe you did know that.....and just want to search for living relatives.
Gives you an idea of his last residence. (siste bosted)
Would give you an good idea or where to search for more information.
Remark that he only used on "s" in his last name.

The two Thomas Starefos' in the Ellis Island listing are naturalized American citizens, member(s) of the crew, appears to be the same person, difference in age, tho.

Thomas is found in Boston in the 1920 & 1930 census in Boston, lodger, unmarried, immigrated 1913/1914, marine engineer.

He registered for the WWI draft in 1917, Thomas Olar Starefos, born Bergen, Norway, April 18, 1891, single, oiler for the Eastern Steamship Co. in Boston.

If he married it would have been after 1930. Have sent you an email with the names and address of four Starefos' in the U.S., one is named Thomas, age 69, a good possibility it is his son, Starefos is a very unusual name.

Hi again Helene.
With the information you now have, and possibly living relatives today, there should be no reason to hire or pay someone to do further research.
I have not seen the information that Jo Anne did send you (adresses?), but there is, as she say, a good possibility that the today living Starefos are relatives.
Most americans would enjoy to establish contact with relatives from Norway; so why not just try call them directly?
Their numbers and adresses shold be able to find trough white pages (telefonkatalog) online.
Let me know if you want some advice directly by mail (in norwegian).

Helene:

I do not know what you are talking about. I sent you addresses that I got off of a free White Pages (residential) online database. It gives the addresses of four Starefos people. You can write them, no one is charging you money. The reason I sent the information offlist is that I do not think it is right to post personal information online of other people.

That said, as far as paying, many companies go through a lot of time and money hiring people, setting up databases and all the costs involved to put information on the Internet, it is only fair that they charge something for it.
