Hi,

I am looking fo any information one might be able to give me on my GG-Grandmother Marit Mitmoen(Jacobson). She was born in Norway and her parents names were Jacob merteir and Martha Meetmer.
She married Christoffer Mortenson in the US. He is originally from Hamar Stift ,Norway .I have info on him (any new info would be welcomed) but would like to know where she came from, also other siblings she might have had ....any help would be appreciated. I am trying to gather information before a reunion in August 06.

Thanks

This is probably her in census-1865: click here

Marit Jakobsdatter (23), born in Ringebo parish.
Parents are: Jakob Svendsen (61) and Marthe Larsdatter (54)
Midtmoen farm, Ringebo parish, Oppland county.

7 brothers to Marit are also living on the farm:
Svend 32)
Lars (30)
Ole (28)
Gudbrand (25)
Johannes (18)
Ole (14)
Amund (10)

This is most likely her brother Ole emigrating to La Crosse (Wisconsin?) in May 1870. Ole Jakobsen Midtmoen (33), from Ringebo.

Brother Gulbrand emigrating to "Milwauce" (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) in June 1871. Gulbrand Jacobsen Medtmoe (30), from Ringbo.

Marit's christening record from 28 JAN 1844, Ringebu, Oppland, Norway. I guess she should be born in nov-dec 1843. The age from the census indicates how old the person will be at the next birthday, in 1866.

Jakob Svendsen and Marthe Larsdatter married on 29 MAY 1833, Ringebu, Oppland, Norway. Just in time before their first son Svend, which are born on 19 JAN 1834

Jacob SVENDSEN Christening: 17 Aug 1806 Place: Ringebu, Oppland, Norway
Parents: Svend OLSEN & Ronnog GUNDERSDR

Svend OLSEN & Ronnoug GUNDERSDR
Marriage: 27 Jun 1805 Place: Ringebu, Oppland, Norway

This looks to be Svend Olsen in census-1801. Parents are Ole Jacobsen (55) and Ingebaar Olsdatter (61), living on Kolstad Nordre in Ringebu. Kolstad nordre is a neighbouring farm to Midtmoen

Marthe LARSDATTER
Birth: 24 Feb 1812 Place: <Ringebu, Oppland, Norway>
Christening: 08 Mar 1812 Place: Ringebu, Oppland, Norway
Parents: Lars OLSEN & Marit OLSDR

Lars OLSEN & Marit OLSDR
Marriage: 19 Jun 1799 Place: Ringebu, Oppland, Norway
Notes: Husband previously married. Additional data in original record.

Here they are on the farm Smidesang in Ringebu in census-1801. Lars looks to be born ca 1767, Marit ca 1776.

Marit Jakobsdatter, b.1843. Parents: Jakob Svendsen & Marthe Larsdatter
Jacob Svendsen, b.1806. Parents: Svend Olsen & Ronnoug Gundersdatter
Marthe Larsdatter, b.1812. Parents: Lars Olsen & Marit Olsdatter

So Marit is named after her maternal grandmother...

Here is most of the family emigrating to La Crosse on June 8th, 1870: click here

Jakob Svendsen (60)
Marte Svendsen (58)
Marit Svendsen (22)
Per Svendsen(19)
Amund Svendsen (16)

"Per" must be Johans/Johannes. There is no Per or Peder christened in Ringebu with parents Jacob Svendsen & Marthe Larsdatter.

From the christening records in Ringebu, 1696-1865:
Born 19.jan.1834, christ 26.jan.1834, Svend, parents Jacob Svendsen & Marthe Larsdatter, place: Kolstad
Born 04.dec.1835, christ 25.dec.1835, Lars, parents Jacob Svendsen & Marthe Larsdatter, place: Koldstad
Born 28.mar.1838, christ 29.apr.1838, Ole, parents Jacob Svendsen & Marthe Larsdatter, place: Kolstad
Born 16.mar.1841, christ 25.apr.1841, Gulbrand, parents Jacob Svendsen & Marthe Larsdatter, place: Koldstad
Born 23.dec.1843, christ 28.jan.1844, Marit, parents Jacob Svendsen & Marthe Larsdatter, place: Koldstad
Born 29.jul.1847, christ 29.aug.1847, Johans, parents Jacob Svendsen & Marthe Larsdatter, place: Midtmoe
Born 10.apr.1851, christ 15.jun.1851, Ole, parents Jacob Svenssen & Marthe Larsdatter, place: Midtmoen
Born 24.jun.1854, christ 09.jul.1854, Amund, parents Jacob Svendsen & Marthe Larsdatter, place: Midtmoen

From Buried in Ringebu 1696-1865:

Svend Olsen Kolstad, dead 31.dec.1860, 80 yo
Ronnoug Gulbrandsdatter Kolstad, 09.jan.1839, 63 yo

Rønnoug Gundersdatter is from Steene farm in Gusdal parish, Oppland, born ca 1776. Father is Gunder Harkildsen. Here she is in census-1801. There is no records of any Ronnoug Gundersdatter buried in Ringebu 1696-1865, so I believe it's her listed as Ronnoug Gulbrandsdatter in the database, dead 09.jan.1839.
Edit: There is a record of one Rønnau Gundersdatter dead in 1815, but she was married to Peder Erichsen Hougstadrønningen.

Lars Olsen Romsaas, dead 02.nov.1852, 84 1/2 yo
Marit Olsdatter Romsaas, dead 04.feb.1833, 57 yo

Thank you very much....!!!!

Might I inquire as to how you located all this information? I have been looking on site after site and have come to dead ends every turn. I appreciate your help so much!!

In August there is going to be a reunion of people whos Family came from Trysil. My GG Grandmother was married to one and they had no information on her or where she came from. That didn't feel right to me. She is just as important as he to be remebered and I thank you so much for giving her a story!
