Hello.

We are searching for information about the family and decendents of Johannes Johannessen (Born April 4th, 1834, in Bräskaforse, in the county of Sorsele, Sweden), wife Elen Anna Villumsdatter (Born April 3th, 1838) and daughter Villummina Johannessdatter (Born 1865 and about six months at the time of emigration to America).

Johannes' father was called Jonas and the familly name in use in America might be "Jonasson" or "Jonassen". The family name "Jonsson" was used when the family still lived in Sweden.

When the Johannessen's lived in Norway, before departure to Amerika, they lived at Klungset, in the county of Fauske in Northern-Norway.

The family came across to Grosse Isle, Quebec, on the "Ship Norden", leaving Bodø, Norway, on June 3rd, 1866, and arriving in Canada August 6th, 1866.
Chances are that the family traveled further, down the rivers and into the United States.

We would appreciate any help in solving this mystery.
Thank you very much.

Signed,
Sivert and Randi Moen,
Soknedal, Norway

Where was Elen Anna born?
I presume Villummina was born in Norway; but for how long time did they stay there? (maybe they adopted the fram name??)

It's more likely they used "Johnsen" than Jonassen in the US

Ellen Anna was born in Fauske (Norland, Norway) and of norwegian heritage. Her fathers name was Villum Johannesen (from Fauske). The familiy of her husband Johannes arrived Fauske from Sweden in 1842.

Fauske is in Nordland and they separated from the Skjerstad parish in 1902. They are listed in the moving out records for Skjerstad in the digitalized parish records on Digitalarkivet, scroll over to the right side. Unfortunately, their destination is indicated as Amerika only. Daughter Vilhomine is indicated as a half a year old in May 1866.

As Jo Anne say's; it's a link to their emigration from the local churchbook in Skjerstad parish, 1866.

Corrected link
