Since Kåre found that Ingeborg was born in Krødsherad, it was reasonable to think that Ole and Ingeborg were married there - and they were, see #6 here http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=1181&idx_id=1181&uid=ny&idx_side=-130

Ole is recorded as a "Tjener Skinnes" i.e. handyman at the Skinnes farm. He was born at Rishovdejet, not Richarderi - but close, in 1860. His father was cotter Torkel Guttormsen. Ingeborgs father is recorded as Kittil Eivindsen and he was also one of the best men.

Ole was born in 1860 - in Krødsherad not Konnsberg, he is #59 here http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=5882&idx_id=5882&uid=ny&idx_side=-73
and his father recorded as Torkild Guttormsen and the mothe Beret Evensdr. living at Rishovdejet.

Thanks Einar
all help appreciated.
Perhaps Ole went to Kongsberg to work in the silvemines since Kongsberg is mentioned.
It´s a small world, my granfather was born in Sigdal and I have lived in Kongsberg all my life.

Oles parents were married in 1847, Torkild was then a widower. See #1 here http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=1103&idx_id=1103&uid=ny&idx_side=-176
- nice handwriting - no need to help read the information in this record I guess - except maybe that Torkild was born in Goel i.e Gol.
They had a daughter in 1850, see #66 here http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=1103&idx_id=1103&uid=ny&idx_side=-108
and were then living at Nohreejet.
In 1854 they had a son, see #15 here http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=5882&idx_id=5882&uid=ny&idx_side=-20
in 187 another son, see #27 here http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=5882&idx_id=5882&uid=ny&idx_side=-44

Gol-Goel
might be Gol parish, in 1801 local parish in Nes main parish- Hallingdal in Buskerud County.

Could Guttorm Stengrimsen age 15 in 1801 on farm Ejdal be Torkilds father? No records online yet.

He is son of Cotter with land Stengrim Olefsen, age 50, married 2. time to Ingeborg Hansdatter age 27 (not Guttorm´s mother), three brothers, Østen, Hans, Erik and sister Barbra.

Found Berit Evensdatter as #4 (Quindekjøn) here http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=8509&idx_id=8509&uid=ny&idx_side=-36
she was an "uægte" child - Even Trulsen and Anne Andersdatter were not married.

Once again, I'm in awe. Thanks so much for the information. I'm guessing it's going to take me at least a day to sort thru it all. A couple of questions:

1) What's a cotters place?

2) Any suggestions on the proper way to document the original sources from the parish registers?

3) Any suggestions on a good online map of Norway to use? A lot of my lines are in different counties, and frankly, it's making my head spin.

4) I have one more family grouping. In the US, their names were Ole and Margit (Olson) Stendahlen/Stendalen (I've seen both spellings). I'm pretty sure I found them in the 1865 census on the Steendalen farm:

http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=2&filnamn=f60811&gardpostnr=29&personpostnr=186&merk=186#ovre

Apparently they emigrated to the US between 1866 and 1870 since they show up in the 1865 Norwegian census and then have another daughter born abt 1870 in Wisconsin, USA according to the 1880 US census.

I think I've found Margit's birth record in Sandsvaer (#43 on the right side):

http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1450-kb20051111010255.jpg&siz=full

It looks like her father's name was Ole Knudssen but I can't read the rest of it. Is there a mother listed? Anne something?

Any help with Ole and Margit would be appreciated.

The column for Margits parents read "Ole Knudsen Ormetangen og Anne Pedersdatter"

Ole and Margit were married July 15 1849, see #21 here http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=1126&idx_id=1126&uid=ny&idx_side=-232
Ole was a tenant under the farm Laurvig, he was born at Danemyr in Slemdal and his father was Ole Levorsen. Margit was at Landaasejet when they married but she was born at Ormtangen på Raje--- and her father was Ole Knudsen.

1. Cotter is English word. Start with an English dictionary.

2. Appropriate source citation depends upon the style and thoroughness that you choose. You might consider using the information available with the Digitalarkivet scanned image itself. At the top of the scanned image page is an option "Bildeinformasjon:" [Norwegian version]/"Image Information"[English version] which is by default set to "Ingen" [Norwegian version]/"None" [English version]. Change that and more info is available. The first line "Kildeinformasjon:" [Norwegian version]/"Source information" [English version] is a really nice summary of the source of the information and is nice to have for making detailed source citations, footnotes, etc.

3. Check out the Links available at upper right of this page and also quick scan through earlier threads on these forums might also give you URLs for map pages of a style that you
like.

Be sure to study the "how-to" links recommended. Just in case you missed it -

It´s a small word,
I lived on Ormetangen until I was 7 years old. Ormetangen is a desert farm next to lake Ravalsjø (named after king Ravald from the Saga) in a moutain area named Skrim.
The nearest farm, about 4 miles closer to Kongsberg town, was Olledalen (Ole, next, married the girl on the neighbour farm).

Ole Knudsen Ormetangen, age 33, married Anne Pedersdatter Olledalen, age 24, in Efteløt church oct. 10.1823, couple nr 18
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=1125&idx_id=1125&uid=ny&idx_side=-221

Ole Knudsen in 1801 on farm Raje Bøe Eje/Ormetangen age 11, two brothers, Anders age 16 and Lars age 7, father Knud Andersen, farmer, age 58, married 3.time and wife Margit Olsdatter age 41
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=28&filnamn=f10629&gardpostnr=282&merk=282#ovre

Ole Knudesn was son of Knut Andersen Ormetangen b.a.1741-dead 1805 and Margit Olsdatter b.a.1749-dead 1805 (buried twoo weeks after her husband Knut)

Ole Olsen Hagen met on behalf of the children under age, estimated value on the farm was increased from 112 to 200 Rd./Riksdaler, value brutto 485, netto 352 Rdl (Source: Sandsværs Historie b.4 p. 422-423)

Online map
http://kart.finn.no/
Enter "søk etter sted" and write Krøderen, Gol, Ål, Hedenstad (church), Efteløt (church) etc. and press " søk/go.
Dobbelclick with the mouse and navigate in the map, use zoom, change to satelite and watch the places.
"fjern merkelapp fra kartet" remove mark from the map.

To track Ormetangen: write Skrim, zoom out twice and you will see lake Ravalsjø and Ormetangen on west side, nort of the lake.
Follow the road from Ormetangen to the crossroad, meeting a "yellow road" you can watch farm Olledalen ab.100 yds south of the road.

The children can be happy i am not a teacher
