My grandfather was Lars Larson, born to Anders (Andrew)Larson Tungesvik and Gjori (Julia) Peterson in 1890 in Grundy County, IL. We have no information on Anders or Gjori. My greatgrandfather was born in Skaanvik, Norway in 1851. But that is as far as I can go. We have no information on his wife. Anyone with any help out there?

What other information do you have? Have you found them in the U.S. census? When did they immigrate? What are the parents approximate birth dates? Approximate date of marriage? Where did they settle?

If there are from Skånevik, Hordaland, the parish records are available online:

Here is a possible match from the1900 US census. Olie and Belle Larson, living at Greenfield, Grundy County, Illinois.
Olie born April 1860 in Norway. Immigrated1882 age 18, Nat.
Belle born April 1864 Norway. Immigrated 1885, age 15.
They were married about 1888.
Children:
Lars Larson b. Jan 1891 Illinois
Edith Larson b.Aug 1893
Inga Larson b. Nov 1894
Jennngs b. July 1897
Edna b. Oct 1899.

Also, the 1910 Census has Andrew L. Larson and Julia Larson with one daughter Ellen, but they are living in Chicago Ward 28, Cook County. Per the census they have had only one child. Andrew and Julia immigrated in 1887.

Lars Larson can be found in the 1910 and 1920 census, but can't be sure if he is the right person unless you can give more information.

If someone else has Ancestry.com, could you please take a look at this. It is the 1900 census and it has a listing for a Andrew and Julia Tungasing in Grundy Co., Illinois. There children are Joseph and Nettie Peterson, and Peter, Lars and Nels Tungasing. Lars is born in December 1890.

In the 1910 census, they are listed as Andrew and Julie Tungesvig, and Lars is the only child still living with them.

http://content.ancestry.com/Browse/view.aspx?dbid=7884&path=Illinois.Grundy.Nettle+Creek.58.2&fn=Andrew&ln=Tungesvig&st=r&pid=5360265&rc=&zp=100

Who did Lars marry? That would help us out a lot. Also, if you can confirm any siblings that Lars may of had.

I found an Anders L. Tungesvig arriving in New York on May 14, 1884 on the Scythia. It says he's a tailor. Do you know if he was a tailor? His age is listed as 33. That matches with the other census information I found. Now to see if Julia came over in 1874, like one of the censuses states.

Was this Julia Peterson's second marriage? I found a Julia Peterson married to a Peter Peterson in Grundy Co., Illinois, in the 1880 census.
It states:
Peterson, Peter, 41, Farmer, Norway
Peterson, Julia, 28, Wife, Norway
Peterson, John, 8, son, Illinois
Peterson, Melinda, 13, daughter, Illinois
Peterson, Julia, 10, daughter, Illinois
Peterson, Thomas, 6, son, Illinois
Peterson, Annie, 4/12 (Jan), daughter, Illinois
Erickson, Nels, 50, father in law, Norway
Erickson, Bell, 66, mother in law, Norway

I'm not sure if this is Julia or not, but the dates match and in the 1900 census, it lists two children with the last name Peterson, listed as son and daughter, living with Anders and Julia. They were born before or right around the time that Anders Tungesvik(g) arrived in the US in 1884, so they wouldn't be his.

Tungesvik farm history/genealogy is included in the bygdebøk "Skåneviksoga 3 - Gardar og ætter Sævareid-Skånevik".

I don't think that particular volume of the multi-volume Skåneviksoga has been copied to microfilm or microfiche by the LDS Family History Library but it is available for use at the library in Salt Lake City. That volume is also listed on several of the volunteer Lookup lists online.

Wanda,

The 1910 census indicated Julia was married twice, had 8 children, 5 were still living. She and Andrew had been married 24 years.

Thanks Les!
I knew I was missing something. At least one of the children listed in the 1880 census is probably Peter Peterson's from a first marriage, since he is so much older than Julia and the oldest child would of been born when Julia was 15.

I would still like some confirmation on some of Lars' siblings, to make sure this is the right Andrew and Julia. I'm not sure if anyone noticed, but Peter and Julia Peterson are listed as being in Nettle Creek Township, Grundy Co., Illinois in the 1880 census and so are Andrew and Julia Tungesvig(k) in the 1900 and 1910 census. I wonder if Andrew just took over the Peterson farm when he married Julia?

Lester,

Did you notice how the question was asked? Lars must have taken on the name Larson and dropped the Tungesvik. I had a great uncle that decided to change the spelling of his name, even though the rest of the family kept it the same.

Great work on the marriage listing!
Now we definitely have the link between the two Julia's from the 1880 census and 1900 and 1910.

The following could be some useful information.

Ole and Jane Tungesvik are in the 1920 census, as Oly Tungesaik, of Big Grove, Kendall County, Illinois. Ole was 69, born in Norway, and Jane was 52, born in Illinois.

Jane Tungesvik is in the 1930 census, same location, widowed, and has her brother George Johnson living with her, and a Foster Daughter Evelyn Johnson.

Can not find anything more for Hannah Tungesvik.

There is an interesting Tungesvik family living in Iowa.

Christian, you need to give us some more help!

Thanks for your help. I do Not have Ancestry.com, but i'll try to find someone who does. My grandfater Lars had two brothers, Peter born April 25, 1997 and Nels born Aug 7, 1893. I've been away from this for a while, but I hope to be able to do some more digging in the next week or so. Thanks again
