She was born 25 Apr 1856 to Hans Christane Nygaard and Louise Marie Hansdatter in Norway. Beyond that, I have no other Norway information about her or her family, farm or parish. I'm looking for any Norway information about her. She married Carl Hertzenberg in the US in 1887. Thanks! Shari

Confusing with so many namesakes and simulare names Jan Peter.

I think perhaps Maren Olava was born in Skedsmo municipality in Akershus County to Hans Christian Olsen and Lovise Marie Hansdatter Nygaard #57

You're right, Kċre. I found it strange that she was not at the farm in the census, but thought that she could have been living by another family...

Me too, genealogy will never be boring.

Her father was from Sĝndre (Southern) Berger and the mother was from Nordvolden when they married Dec. 20. 1849 #24

Both Maren Olava and her older sister Bergitte born feb. 18. 1849 was born on Nygard.
In 1865 the family lived on Uldering, Maren had five sisters.
In 1864 on Oct. 2. when Bergitte´s confirmation was taken place the family lived on Nordvolden, same farm her mother came from when she maried.

When Maren Olava´s confirmation was taken place Oct. 10.1871 only her birth place Nygaard is mentioned, not where she lived #89

Thank you!!!

I'm in the last stages of completing a family history book and the recent set of posts is to plug the remaining holes I haven't been able to plug with my Ancestry.com membership. I will be sure not to send all those posts in the future now I know that it's not necessary.

Any chance you've found her on a passenger list?

Thanks to your wonderful links with my other posts, I spent a lot of time in the Digital Archives of Norway (how I wish we had that in the US) and did see this same Ulvering listing, but had no idea if it was her. Thanks so much!

I am note sure, couldn´t find her in the migration records for Skedsmo

We can assume dep. port was Oslo, age for this Maren Hansdr. is wrong (not unusual), her dest was Brownsville on ship Albion

This woman arrived Quebec on July 26th, 1872 with the ship SS Sarmatian. Age is the same... est. birth year is 1847.

So I think it's a namesake. Besides, didn't Maren Olava Nygaard emigrate around 1882...?

That was obvious a blind track, well, all right to eliminate her.

Some information from Skedsmo.

Skedsmo is a municipality in Akershus County.
The church is from 1180, build on the same place as a wood church ordered build by King Olav Haraldsson (St. Olav) in 1022.

From the interior, among the oldest effects;
The Altarpiece from 1693, the Pulpit from 1578, the Baptismal fountain in Soapstone from 1200, the bells (not in use) from 1100-1200, an iron cross from 1665, a chandelier from 1699 and a silver candle sticks from 1613.

Do you want the records on the parents?
