I am trying to find out the name of a ship that I believe to have shipwrecked at the Hudson river (or somewhere close) in January 1912. I believe it collided, but are not sure.

My great grandfather, Torger Emil Pedersen, was on board that ship and was probably the Chief Master. He died in this shipwreck.

Does anyone in this forum have any information on this shipwreck or know where I can find information about it?

Hi Mikkel,

At www.genealogybank.com I did a keyword search in Historical Newspapers for shipwreck Hudson and limited to January 1912 and found 2 references in an Idaho newspaper dated 15 Jan 1912. No ship was named but in the index portion it mentioned 353 casualties? or survivors?. Only part of the headline appeared in the "free look" so I wasn't able to get more details. Torger Emil Pederson did not come up when searched for that name. Genealogybank is a subscription site and a short, cheaper temporary subscription is available if you want to pursue this.

Good Luck....
