Based on information from the Digitalarkivet, I think my great-aunt Johanna Johnsdatter was a passenger on the Scandinavia-American line ship Hellig Olav, sailing to New York from Kristiania 19 October 1906. Unfortunately, Ancestry.com seems to have only a fragment of the passenger list for this sailing. Could anyone advise me of other sources for this list. I realize the records may simply no longer exist.

There is a Johanna Vilhelmine Sofie Johansdatter, born 1883, leaving in Sept 1906, (another link)
There is a Ingeborg Johanne Jensdatter Vik, born 1891, leaving Oct 19 1906

Other sources would be

The Ellis Island website; or
Searching the New York (Ellis Island) Database in One Step website;

or the microfilm copies of the original passenger records available through either the US National Archives or any of the hundreds of LDS Family History Centers around the US and the world.

My own grandmother arrived through New York (Ellis Island) in 1903 and does NOT appear on any extracted index through the Ellis Island databases or through Ancestry. I was able to find her arrival record on microfilm of the original records myself -- probably because I knew what the difficult handwriting for her entry on that list was actually trying to indicate. Having other identifying information such as age at time of arrival, recognition of the notation of WHO and WHERE she was headed for was also invaluable to my search.

Thanks very much. Based on other information, I am sure this is aunt Hanna, traveling to meet her "fiance" in Brooklyn, NY.

In the end, the immigrants suggested above did not prove to be my Aunt Hannah. I found her, however, in the Hellig Olav passenger list provided by Ellis Island Foundation...listed as Anna Johnsen...among the passengers who boarded at Christiania. I was able to identify her by her birthplace -- Moksvold, in Hordaland -- and by her reason for coming: to meet her intended husband, uncle G. Iver Iversen.

Thanks to all for your help.
