Jackie!! What a wealth of information ... thank you so much! This is just the information I was missing. I see now why I wasn't making any progress on the Norway end, I was searching Satra, Sathre, Sather, Setre, Sættre, Sætre, Sæther ... I haven't found anything yet to hint at how they ended up with that name on the U.S. end of the journey. Further study will shed some light, I'm sure ... thank you again for the excellent information, I really appreciate it. Best, Carra

Hello: Olaf Martin Sathre was my grandfather. His dad according to our family records was Martin Olsen Sathre. Family lore is they took that last name to have a more unique last name. And it was taken from their home place in Norway.
THANK YOU all for providing the information already posted.

My grandfather was the 2nd 'Olaf' child in that family.
He said he was not given a name until he was 2 years old.

Karen Saetre was the 2nd wife of Martin.
Annie Sathre lived 1885 - 1904
Mike Sathre was in Minnesota when one census was done

Would someone please translate the records for me so I am clear with the names of Martin father and mother and Bertia father and mother? And their birth place. Thank you

The marriage record says Martin Olsen came from Kløften, was born 1851, and hai father was Ole Olsen, and Berthea Martinsen came from Storhosen, was born 1857, and her father was Martin Thomasen.

The baptismal record for Martin is #27, he was born May 12 1851 and baptized Marthin May 25. The parents was Ole Olsen, Kløften and Anne Marie Amundsdatter.

I believe Bertheas father named Martin Thomasen Storhosen is not correct.
Berthea Martinsdatter, Storhosen was confirmated 16 1/2 years old Oct 4 1874, her parents there are Martin Mathiasen and Marthe Eriksdatter.

See also the 1865 census here.
